Grim paced back and forth across the floor. This was it. He was gettin’ hitched. Tying the knot. Any other euphemism for the phrase would do. The point was, he was getting married, and today was the day.

To think that this time tomorrow he would officially be married to the most beautiful, most intelligent, and wonderful witch in all the world for the rest of his life. The very thought gave him butterflies in his stomach.

Grim checked his bow tie in the mirror for what had to be the sixth time today. He wanted everything to go perfectly. He had taken every possible precaution.

Hildy had on something old, (she had her crystal earrings on, that her mother had given her when she was 10) something new, (Grim had bought her a new necklace, which, of course, matched with the earrings) something borrowed, (her wedding dress had been in Grim’s family for generations) and something blue (Grim had made sure she wore blue unmentionables, and boy that conversation had been awkward)

Grim felt a smile grow across his face. He couldn’t wait to see her. He hadn’t seen Hildy in what felt like forever. They both had lots to do for the wedding, and with all of that going on, there wasn’t a lot of time in between for them to spend time with each other. Well, at least tonight they would see each other. Maybe he would get to see her something blue. He felt a blush trickle across his cheeks at the very thought.

Grim felt a tap on his shoulder and he nearly jumped out of his skin. Luckily, it was just the pastor. He cleared his throat and put a hand on Grim’s shoulder, “It’s time, my son.”

Grim took a breath and nodded, “It’s time.”

Grim stood at the alter, though whether you could call it standing was debatable. He was all jittery and could barely contain himself. Everyone in his family seemed to tell him not to worry.

Easy for them to say, Grim thought as he fiddled with his thumbs. They’re not the one getting married.

Suddenly, Grim’s attention was brought to the front of the room as music emanated throughout the chapel and everyone stood from their seats (except for Uncle Ronald, who had already managed to fall asleep). Grim felt his intestines twist together as he awaited the moment when he would see his bride-to-be walk down the aisle.

Just then, Grim felt the wind get knocked straight out of him as he finally saw her. He couldn’t believe it. Hildy looked more fair than she ever had before (and that was saying something, since she always looked like the prettiest in all of Jollywood). Then, he noticed Hildy looking right at him and laughing. He noticed that his mouth was hanging wide open in surprise. He blushed and closed it, though he had to bite his lip in order to keep it that way.

Hildy reached the end of the aisle and was standing right at his side. She looked over and gave him a small wave. Grim waved back and Hildy grabbed his hand. He felt her rubbing her thumb against his palm in small circles and he gave her hand a squeeze.

The whole ceremony was a blur, it went by so fast. Grim remembered weddings usually taking a heck of a lot longer than this, but with him standing up here, with the woman he loved, it only felt like a few minutes. In what felt like no time at all, Grim was being asked to take care of Hildy in sickness and health, ‘til death do them part. Grim accidentally said, “yes” instead of “I do,” but no one said anything, so he assumed it was okay.

Then, it happened. The pastor said the words that ended the whole thing.

"You may kiss."

Grim felt Hildy nearly leap into him and wrap her arms tightly around him, pulling him close. She was kissing him, she really was! Grim was pulled off guard with Hildy’s kiss, although what else was he expecting her to do? It was the magical kiss that signified the joining of two people. Grim closed his eyes and pulled her even closer. Hildy was kissing her husband and he was kissing his wife. It sounded so right in his head. And it felt right too.

SOOO good!!! Love it!
